MSK Bergen: Superior Cancer Care in Bergen County

By Taylor Smith

Memorial Sloan Kettering, known for superior cancer care, has a new location. Memorial Sloan Kettering Bergen (MSK Bergen), at 225 Summit Avenue in Montvale, N.J., is situated an hour and 30 minutes from Princeton and less than 60 minutes from New York City. The Bergen County community borders six neighboring municipalities: Woodcliff Lake, Upper Saddle River, Park Ridge, and River Vale in Bergen County; and both Pearl River and Chestnut Ridge in Rockland County, N.Y. Montvale is easily accessed by the Garden State Parkway, along with the New York State Thruway.

In terms of world-class cancer care, MSK Bergen features the most advanced medical technology for diagnosis and treatment, including linear accelerators used in radiation therapy. At MSK Bergen, patients can receive their chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation treatment within the state of New Jersey. Additional services include surgical, medical, and radiation oncology consultations; mammography; ultrasound; MRI, CT, and PET imaging; clinical trials; a cancer-specific retail pharmacy; and supportive services including rehabilitation, lymphedema therapy, genetic counseling, social work, and nutrition.

Matthew Matasar, chief of medical oncology at MSK Bergen, leads a multidisciplinary team of experts who specialize in caring for people with cancer. For most cancers, treatment will be led by a highly-developed team of doctors, nurses, and other experts. Working together, your team will develop a treatment plan that will lead to the best possible outcome. Your cancer team will oversee risk assessment and screening, diagnosis and treatment, managing symptoms and side effects, clinical trials, and patient and caregiver education. MSK Bergen’s roster of physicians, nurses, and medical professionals care for people with all types of cancer and allied diseases. Patients can find detailed information about MSK’s approach to diagnosis and treatment according to cancer types at

Many people who complete cancer treatment and move into post-treatment recovery and “survivorship” encounter natural feelings of fear, anxiety, relief, and confusion. MSK Bergen can help to answer questions and concerns about life after cancer, such as handling new fears, returning to life “as normal,” and deciding how to not only survive, but thrive. By anticipating these challenges, MSK Bergen offers support and practical solutions.
